Kilburn highroad
This work documents the shifting character of London through night-time photography and ceramic printmaking. Using an animal tracking camera, thousands of images were taken on walks across the city to build a visual record of urban life and change. The project draws on personal memories and examines ideas of urban renewal and the meaning of home.
Each image is transferred onto ceramic through a process using oxides and stains. During firing, the prints distort in the kiln, transforming sharp screenprints into ghostly, continuous-tone images that resemble fading memories or lost photographs.
The photographic works are shown alongside sculptures that explore similar themes of place and community. Through the use of glaze, print, and form, the project reflects the dense layering of colours, structures, and cultures that define London. A recent tower-like sculpture references the topography of Kilburn High Road, a street near where the artist grew up, highlighting the city’s constant overlap of histories and identities.
